Conde de Villaseñor Crianza

TASTING NOTES: medium bright cherry-red colour. Vintage aromas of great finesse (vanilla, coconut, toasted grains) combined with fruit and liquorice hints (ripe red berries). Broad and elegant palate. The aftertaste comes clean, lingering; it leaves a pleasant memory.

Profile sheet:

FOOD MATCHING: this wine goes very well with appetizers, all kinds of ‘tapas’, small game and medium strength cheese.

VITICULTURE: a selection of grapes from vineyards in Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta. These are very poor quality calcareous soils with a clay loam texture. Vines averaging 20 years’ old, grown mainly using a traditional goblet guiding system.

VARIETAL COMPOSITION: Tempranillo.

PRODUCTION: 14-day fermentation and maceration process in stainless steel vats, with a daily pumping over to optimise the extraction of colouring agents and tannins. Malolactic fermentation in vat and two rackings before transfer into cask. Aged for 14 months in 225-litre (59-gallon) American and French oak casks, with one racking. The wine spends a few months rounding off in the bottle before being released for sale.
