History of Conde of Villaseñor

In 1687, the noble title was granted to the Count of Villaseñor by Carlos II, King of Spain, for having held the offices of Lieutenant in Charge of the King’s Armed Forces, Chief Magistrate of Pauta in Peru and finally Mayor of Lima, in consideration for his services to the Spanish Crown.

The Villaseñor estate was created when the current Conde de Villaseñor team decided to market their wines from vineyards located in Rioja Alavesa, that exclusively produce the tempranillo grape variety, the average age of the vines being from 20 to 30 years.

The technical developments in winemaking in La Rioja throughout its thousand years of history have been one of the key factors in achieving fine quality, prestige and the unique features of the Conde de Villaseñor wines. The lands still provide unequalled conditions for vine growing, development and grape ripening.

All these features, the location of the vineyards, production area, grape variety and vine age, combined with technique and loving care have made the Conde de Villaseñor wines what they are today.Todas estas caracteristicas, localización del viñedo, área de producción, variedad de uva y edad de las cepas, unidas a la técnica y al cariño con el que se hacen los vinos Conde de Villaseñor, hacen que estos sean considerados unos caldos excelentes.

Today, our wines are sold in the Spanish and other markets, such as Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, India and China, with excellent prospects of growth.
